Our Trip to Kimmeridge Bay Dorset. A must see!!

We do like the odd trip to a smaller beach/bay, so we would like to invite you to read all about our trip to Kimmeridge Bay.

This is more of a story of our trip, but I also have a post about the specifics of Kimmeridge Bay.

Did you know there are only a few counties in the UK that don’t have a motorway running through them? One of them is Dorset. To get to some of the coastal regions of this amazing county, you have to endure country lanes.

We love a good drive, so during our trip to Kimmeridge Bay, we decided it was well worth the effort.

Especially, when at the end of the car hugging lanes you can enjoy this………

When you have traversed these lanes, maybe backed up a few times to let other cars through, admired the views, enjoyed the twists and turns (paid the parking, £5 in our case) you arrive at the car park.

Here, you can park a few feet away from the edge of a cliff. On our trip to Kimmeridge Bay, I wanted to try and get the bay in full.

This photo was taken from the cliff edge. The bonnet of our car was 6 inches behind me, but we had beautiful views over Kimmeridge Bay. It is the best I can do at the time.

Getting down to the bay

Next, is the most arduous and energetic part of this trip (unless like us you went with a 2-year-old) was walking down the 20 or so steps cut into the cliff to reach the beach.

Beware for brambles, stinging nettles, and thistles on the way down. As you take those last few steps onto the beach you realise the drive, and the steps were worth it.

The beach is mainly shingle, so be prepared with flip-flops or comfy shoes unless you have well-leathered feet! I don’t by the way.

Stretching out into the sea was a rock ‘platform’, perfect for kids and dads alike to grab that crabbing net and go on the hunt.

We came totally unprepared for our trip to Kimmeridge Bay, with just a bucket, so no catch of the day for us.

Our little Max did enjoy splashing around in the shallow waters though. A word of warning, there is very little shade here, it’s not your normal beach in fact it’s not really a beach at all, it is a bay, so parasols etc are non existent.

How was Our Trip to Kimmeridge Bay Dorset. Is it a place I recommend?

It is a wonderful place to go, to paddle, crab and soak up the sun (hopefully) in a wonderful environment, away from civilisation.

Gather your things and go there, and when you are there, gather your thoughts. It’s a great place to do that, if nothing else!
