There are many reasons why Campervans are great. I want to list my best reasons for a campervan holiday, and you can let me know if you agree. Traveling around the UK is perfect in a campervan, and here is why.
Yes, 5* Luxury accommodation is brilliant (just ask my wife), but for true freedom, spur of the moment travel and just days out, we thought we would explain why we think campervans are great! Although, they do not always go to plan!!
We have had some fantastic holidays and weekends away in our campervan. Ulwell Cottage, Highlands End and Pencelli Castle are all sites we would recommend.
However, if you are reading this during the 2020 COVID lockdown, and waiting for campsites to open, then beware. Some sites won’t have toilets and showers open straightaway. Some will let you visit with a Porta-Potti.
Highlands End, mentioned above, won’t for example.
If you want more information, the this post may help you when understanding what to expect.
So without further ado, let’s get into it!
Best Reasons for a Campervan holiday – You have freedom and spontaneity
So you wake up and realise the weather people have got it wrong for once (Note: sarcasm alert!).
No problem, just load up the campervan, stick a pin a map, pop on your shades and off you go!
Campervans are great because…You have transport and accommodation rolled into one
Don’t get me wrong, but we are huge fans of Road Trips. We have had some of our best holidays driving around, stopping at hotels and motels then driving onto the next place. However, here are the choices.
Car and Hotels / Motels
Drive, Park, Check In, Unload, Carry to Room. Next Day – Carry from Room, load car, Drive to next Hotel, Park, Check In….Lather, Rinse, Repeat!
Campervan
Drive, Check In, Park, Open Bottle of Wine, Reeelaaax
Campervans are great because…They are a bit comfier and more convenient than a tent
Being under canvas is great, but not for us. Faffing around with canvas in the ever-changing British weather is something we’d prefer to avoid. Not when you can go from arriving at the campsite to getting into bed with your favourite book within 15 minutes.
And that is without even getting out of the campervan. Of course, sleeping under canvas has its benefits too, but as a couple of 40 somethings with (at the time of typing) a 5-year-old, it is not for us. This is one of the best reasons for a campervan holiday, in our opinion!
Campervans are great because…They are perfect for day trips too
We have lost count of the number of times we have just headed out to the beach in the ‘van for a few hours. Or perhaps packed a snack, and tried out one of the great New Forest Walks, like this one at Kings Hat.
Roof up.
Kettle on. Perfect.
Best Reasons for a Campervan Holiday…You can cook anything, anywhere
With a fridge, and a 2 ring gas burner, plus the options for additional cooking outside, you can enjoy some home-from-home cooked meals.
There is usally a decent amount of space in the campervan for preperation, and it also encourages you too keep things simple.
Campervans are great because…It’s an adventure for the kids
In today’s modern world, with everyone including little kids glued to an iPhone or a screen of some kind, it is an ideal way to get them out in the fresh air.
Our little boy Max loves the fun of it all, and we can offer some advice here too!
It is like the best den ever for him! Certainly one of the top reasons for a campervan holiday.
Campervans are great because…They’re just cool!
They just are. Some more than others obviously.
Ours still has the same badge on the front, but it’s a bit more modern and suitable for family holidays.
Summary of my best reasons for a campervan holiday
So, there you have it. Our reasons why campervans are great, and why you should consider buying one renting one for a trip at least once.
There are some great places to rent a campervan from, so definitely a good idea to try before you buy.
Do you have a campervan, or have you rented one? What are your best reasons?
Happy Campervanning!
