Walking from Durdle Door to Lulworth Cove, or indeed the other way is a popular but recommended walk. The walk isn’t too difficult, and the views are well worth the effort.
You have the relative untouched Durdle Door, and the perfect little seaside cove town of Lulworth. While Durdle Door is untouched in its sense there is no shop or pubs etc, it is an extremely popular tourist trap. If you visit weekends or holidays, don’t expect to be the only one there.
We were camping at Durdle Door Holiday Park, so we didn’t have to worry about parking. But, if you do, then there are large car parks at both Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. But, expect them to be busy and to fill up quickly, for the reasons mentioned above.
If you want a true sense of what the walk is like, then check out this video I put together over on my YouTube channel.

Where Does the Durdle Door to Lulworth Cove Walk start from?
Whichever location you decide to start at, the beginning of the walk starts near the car parks, so you can’t really miss it. Particularly if you are coming from Lulworth Cove.
A word of warning, the uphill from Lulworth Cove car park, is far tougher than the walk up from Durdle Door Car Park. Of course, there is a steep walk down to the beach at Durdle Door, so I am just talking about Car Park to Car Park.
If you want to actually walk from Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door BEACH, then expect severe uphills in both directions. Sea level is sea level after all!
Stunning walks, but what is there to do at either end?
Durdle Door, compared to Lulworth Cove, not much. Other than a stunning beach, and gorgeous scenery there is nothing much else there. Occasionally we have seen an ice cream van, but if the majority of your time is being spent at Durdle Door, then you need to bring any drinks, lunch and refreshments.
PLEASE remember that anything you bring should be taken away with you. Let’s keep our beaches and countryside tidy, the way nature intended. This is unacceptable. Thank you 🙂
Lulworth Cove, however, is a different story. Cafes, ice cream shops, a visitor centre. A couple of pubs, a hotel and takeaways are all on offer. Check out the video above to see the quaint streets and what you can expect there.
Summary
Which way you chose to walk from Durdle Door to Lulworth Cove, it is great exercise with stunning views. This is a popular walk, so except it to be busy when the weather is great.
It is definitely worth checking out, but as mentioned, please respect and look after the countryside, and Keep Britain Tidy!
I hope this post was useful. Here are a few shots of the walk, and of course you have the video above to watch for a more detailed view.
