Corfe Castle is a ruined castle site situated in the village of Corfe, in Dorset. It is one of more than 1,500 castles that are dotted around the UK. If you are a fan of castles, particularly small ones, have a read of this post.
Corfe is just 15-minute drive to the beautiful seaside town of Swanage, a similar distance to Kimmeridge Bay, and just a 20-minute drive to Lulworth Cove. This means that in a day, you could see a number of stunning locations along the Jurassic Coast.
Below should be most, if not all of the information you need to make the most of your visit to Corfe Castle.

Getting There
History / A bit about Corfe Castle
Built in the 12th Century, it has served a number of different purposes, including a Family Home, and unsurprisingly a Royal Residence the first being King Henry I, William the Conqueror’s son.
After the best part of 600 years, Parliament gave the order to destroy the castle, but thankfully, that didn’t happen. Not properly anyway.
The National Trust website explains the history in a lot more (and better) detail than I ever could.
What’s nearby?
As already mentioned, Corfe Castle is in prime location to be able to see a beautiful part of the UK. When I decided to start the this website, all about UK Travel, I wanted to be able to see, photograph and write about places like this.
Studland, Swanage, Kimmeridge Bay and Lulworth Cove all within 20 minutes or so. Only 30 minutes from the major city of Bournemouth, and less than 45 minutes from the popular seaside town of Weymouth.
About Our Visits to Corfe Castle
We have been to the village of Corfe, so have seen Corfe Castle many times. Each time we love getting out parking in one of the many local car parks and just having a wander around the village.
There is the odd little trinket shop. A couple of nice country pubs that serve local ales & decent home cooked food and an art gallery.
Add these to the castle itself, and it is easy to spend a few hours here if you want to.
Summary of Corfe Castle
It have been a while since we last visited, so we are definitely due another trip.
It is certainly a place you will want to visit, so be sure to stop by, even if you don’t actually climb the 800 feet to the castle itself. The quaint picturesque village and welcoming county pubs will surely be worth your time.
