The Important Bits

Campsite Name: Lydford Gorge Caravan and Camping Park

Location: near Lydford Gorge, EX20 4BE

Location

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Perfect if you want to visit and hike Lydford Gorge

Toilets & Showers

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Great site, and my only minor gripe is the push-button showers and only 1 peg

Cost

Rating: 4 out of 5.

We paid £77 for two night’s pitch, so very reasonable

We Like

Location and proximity to Lydford Gorge. Walking distance, and a nice little pub, the Castle Arms, in the village to visit on the way back

We Don’t Like

Showers, as mentioned above. Hardstanding pitches are quite narrow, our awning encroached on the grass (but the staff didn’t mind).

Location of Lydford Gorge Camping & Caravan Site

We came to this particular Dartmoor campsite purely because we wanted to visit Lydford Gorge.

The location was perfect to visit the natural wonder, and small village, with the Castle Inn pub a short walk away was a perfect, idyllic setting to explore the gorge.

Customer Service and Staff

Really nice.

The first lady we spoke to was helpful and showed us to our pitch.

When we were pitching our awning in the pouring rain, another staff member stopped for a chat and was laid back when we asked if we could pitch part of the awning on the grass.

Showers and Toilets

Clean and tidy, although not very big. I think 4 showers, three toilets and three sink cubicles.

The showers are the push-button type, which we don’t like. There is also only one peg in the shower. Tough if you want to hang up your wash bag, your towel, and perhaps some clothes.

Water pressure ok, water warm, but having to press the button every 5 or 10 seconds was a little frustrating.

General Cleanliness

Good. Bin areas were clean and tidy. Elsan point was too.

The showers and toilets were ok, as they are cleaned between 11 and 12.30 each day.

Facilities at this Dartmoor Campsite

Basic, for what you need. Small (but pricey) reception shop

Tenting/grass field to accompany the hard standing was available too. Motorhome service point was ok, as were the washing up facilities.

This site is a certified Caravan and Motorhome Club site, so you would expect a certain standard, and we feel this was adequately met.

Conclusion

I would love to come back to explore Lydford Gorge again when the weather is better, and the whole loop is open.

When we do, we would not hesitate in staying at Lyford Gorge Camping and Caravan site again.

We stayed at this site purely because we wanted to visit Lydford Gorge. Neither the campsite nor the gorge disappointed us.

This Dartmoor campsite is an excellent choice for exploring this area.
