Hi everybody, and today we are exploring Hengistbury Head. There are great walks with stunning views, plenty of flowers and wildlife. If the walk is too much, why not try out the Land Train for an easy trip. You can take it there or back.
Let’s look around in a bit more detail.

Arrival and Facilities
You get to Hengistbury Head car park down a dead-end road. Be warned if you have a Campervan or Motorhome, as there is a height restriction.
There is a large car park, but it does get full up in busy times.
There are toilets next to the car park, along with a Cafe and an Ice Cream shop. This is where you can get the Land Train. This takes you out to the end of Hengistbury Head, to Mudeford Sandbank.
There is also a visitors centre, which tells you all you need to know. It sells the usual souvenirs and for £1, a map of the walk.
Which Route did I take?
There are a couple of routes to chose from. I chose to take a circular route. I headed up along the clifftop path, before coming down onto the beach. Then I headed out to the end of Mudeford Sandbank, before turning around, and heading back alongside the Christchurch Harbour.
This gives you the best of both worlds.
I started by following the easy-to-navigate path up onto the clifftop. Eventually, you reach the end of Hengistbury Head, enjoying the great views on the way.
At the end of the Hengistbury Head
Once you have taken the stairs down, you come out onto the Beach on Hengistbury Head. If you turn right it goes back round to a pretty beach. Or if you do what I did and head left, you find yourself heading toward Mudeford Quay. This gives you a chance to see all the pretty, colourful beach huts.
Turn Left for Mudeford and the Bech Huts Turn Right for the Beach
Just along here, is where the Land Train turns around. Be sure to have a ride on this if you want an easy route there or back.
I headed further down. I wanted to go as far as I could, and take a look across to Mudeford Quay.
There is a ferry that takes you across Christchurch Harbour, so you can visit both sides of the water.
After a quick sit down and a well-deserved drink, I set off for the walk back. This time I chose the route that takes you alongside Christchurch harbour.
You can enjoy all the boats, but be sure to take care. Even in July, the ground was a little soft.
After a while, you come out on the same path the train takes. If you follow the path, you reach the visitors centre, and then the cafe area.
Summary of my hike around Hengistbury Head
This is a really pleasant walk, and one I would definitely recommend. The clifftop walk provides the best views, but is not really suitable for buggies or anyone with decreased mobility as the route does encounter a few steps.
The easiest walk would be to follow the route of the land train. While you may not get the best views you do still get out to the head itself, and can enjoy the beach and the bars. Why not take the ferry across to Mudeford?
