Pebble Bank Holiday Park – is it the perfect spot to explore the delightful Chesil Beach?

We have been desperate to share our review of Pebble Bank Holiday Park. Mainly because we have been desperate to visit somewhere. Anywhere. We chose to visit this one of many campsites near Weymouth, as it wasn’t too far from where we live.

We chose Pebble Bank for our first campsite since Lockdown restrictions were released. It wasn’t too far away to travel for one night, and it was near the sea.

As with all our reviews here, and what we want to achieve on this site, we only review the campsites we have stayed at, so you know you are getting an honest opinion from honest campers. This is a review based on our experiences, totally independent and not sponsored or influenced by the campsite in any way.

There are many campsites near Weymouth, so let’s get on with the review of this one.

Snapshot Review of Pebble Bank Holiday Park

Perfect location, overlooking Chesil Beach. Friendly staff happy to help us. The spacious pitches were somewhat not exactly to our liking.
There was zero privacy and was basically an open area on a field. The location was stunning but be prepared for the wind whipping in from the sea.

Location of Pebble Bank Holiday Park

Pebble Bank Holiday Park is situated overlooking Chesil Beach.

This is a great location if you are looking for a campsite near Weymouth, and one not too far from perhaps a less popular tourist beach.

You are a short drive from Portland, and not far is Portland Lighthouse, and Billy Winters Beach Bar.

If you are a walker or cyclist then look for the Rodwell Trail, which is a 2 mile or so walk from not far from the campsite, to Weymouth city centre along a disused railway.

Customer Service and Staff

Pebble Bank Caravan Park

The staff were helpful and courteous. Both during the booking process, when we booked prior to the site re-opening during COVID-19 and on-site.

Check-in while different this time, was efficient and simple. The difference was that we had to drive and park on our pitch, and then only one person could go to reception to check in.

Once there, only one person could enter at any one time. Other than that, Pebble Bank Caravan Park, near Weymouth has some very nice staff and was a pleasure to deal with.

Showers and Toilets

Our Review of Pebble Bank Caravan Park continues with the Showers and Toilets. There are over 45 touring pitches and one shower block. The gents had only 3 or 4 shower cubicles in, but they were spacious, with room to hang clothes while showering.

There are many campsites near Weymouth to choose from, and this one won’t sell itself on its stunning shower facilities, but they were more than adequate, although closed at night due to COVID restrictions.

General Cleanliness

Good. Zero complaints. The place was clean and tidy.

The washing up area and its 3 or 4 sinks were clean, and indoors. Bearing in mind, the site only opened today after 3 months of being shut down. So, had there been a mess, it would have been disappointing.

Showers and toilets were clean, but there is extra emphasis on this at the moment, and keeping these sanitised is a priority at the time of typing.

Facilities

Pebble Bank Caravan Park is not strewn with excellent facilities. If you are looking for a pool or an onsite shop, this may not be for you.

However, the Fat Badger pub was a nice addition, and although spaces were limited thanks to Social Distancing, it was a pleasant place to be, with a lovely decking overlooking Chesil Beach.

There was a small, and I mean small, play park, but there is plenty of space for the kids to run around, as you’d expect.

Pebble Bank Caravan Park

Bar – Warm. Inviting. Good beer. Friendly staff and modern.

Laundry – Washers and dryers, along with iron and ironing board.

Washing Up – Being inside was an advantage, particularly in the British weather. Push taps with no plug only real complaint.

Play Area – Small, and a token gesture. I can imagine this getting swamped in the August school holiday peak time.

Conclusion of Pebble Bank Holiday Park

I am not sure I would rush in coming back. There are other sites I would dash back to. Ullwell Caravan Park in Swanage or Highlands End along the coast are two in particular.

The views out to sea are worth a look, and the proximity to Portland and Weymouth itself is advantageous too.

However, the lack of things to do for children, especially if you want to spend a few days at the site, could prove its downfall. Having said that, if you want a quieter park, with a nice pub and super friendly staff, then you could do worse than Pebble Bank.
