The Video of Things to do in Cheddar Gorge

Here is a quick video we made of Cheddar when we visited in 2021.

Cheddar Gorge Walk

This is highly recommended. It is thoroughly enjoyable, gives you amazing views, and also gives you a sense of accomplishment afterward. If you do the whole walk as we did, then there are some tough climbs, but once you get to the top, the views are well worth the effort.

This list is in no particular order, but it is no coincidence that this is at the top of our “things to do in Cheddar” list.

Cheddar Reservoir

3.5k around, and containing 1,350 million gallons of water, Cheddar reservoir is another of the good things to do in and around Cheddar Gorge, particularly if you like walking.

Although we haven’t walked all the way around it, we did walk a bit of it in our 2021 Trip there. It feels a lot like a lake as you stare out across the water. With the right conditions, you can get some nice photos, and have a really pleasant walk.

Definitely worth a visit, especially as there is free parking.

Try the Cheese!

Everybody has had Cheddar Cheese right? Well, here, they make amazing cheese that is matured in the actual caves themselves.

There is the Cheddar Gorge Cheese company shop, showcasing all their cheeses and the multitudes of flavours. On the day we were there, there was a stall outside where you could taste the amazing cheese, cooked in a toastie.

Once inside the shop, you can try the little cubes of all the flavours, to tempt you into purchasing. It worked, and we treated ourselves.

Cheddar Caves

Unfortunately for us, when we visited, the caves were closed due to COVID.

We can’t comment on this then with too much authority. Suffice to say, they are one of the main attractions of the area.

When we return, we will be sure to check them out, and then let you guys know all about them

Walk the High Street

I know this sounds really boring, but there is a lot to see and a lot going on.

Pubs, Ice Cream Shop and Restaurants.

Food shops, the cheese shop (of course), and Cider shops.

There are plenty of little gift shops to browse, and even a crazy golf course, if you fancy yourself as a Tiger Woods.

The pretty river running through, and if you walk far enough in, you find yourself in the depths of the Gorge itself.

This definitely deserves to be on our list of Things to do in Cheddar Gorge.

Drive the Gorge Road

This is on one of my Top 5 drives to do in the UK, and it is now one I can tick off!!

The winding gorge road is a drivers dream! The ‘boy racers’ and bikers that frequent it are testament to that. When we were walking the Cheddar Gorge walk, the engines reverberated through the gorge. They were one of the few sounds we heard up on the cliff tops.

Drive it, enjoy it, but take care as there are a lot of pedestrians.
