The Seaton Tramway is a narrow-gauge tram that currently runs between Seaton and Colyton Station. This post should tell you a bit about the history, and the Seaton Tramway timetable and prices.
The Tramway is just one of many things to see and do in Seaton.
Video of the Seaton Tramway
If you would like to see a fun video from when we visited, then here is the one we made in 2021.
History of the Tramway
There is lots of great info on their website, but I am going to try and give you the highlights here. Much of this information was gleaned from here. So don’t forget to head over there to check out all the information.
It opened in 1970, and initially, it ran for less than the 3 miles it runs for now. It was eventually completed in 1980 and traveled from Seaton to Colyton.
The Tramway has around 14 trams, aging from 1906 to 2007.
The Route
The route runs between Seaton and Colyton Station and is about 3 miles. The whole journey takes about 20 minutes. Usually, there are an additional 3 stops or halts as they are called, but the ones at Wetlands and Riverside are not currently operating.
This means the only halts are Seaton, Colyford, and Colyton.
Seaton Tramway Timetable and Prices
As you can imagine, the Seaton Tramway timetable changes through the season. The route is either closed, or only open at weekends during the winter months. As the busier seasons arrive, more trams are used, expanding capacity.
For more information on the timetable, check out their website.
The costs to ride the Seaton Tramway are reasonable.
- Adult tickets from £10.90 (£12 if you include a voluntary Donation)
- Child (2-15) £8.70 (£9.60 if you include a voluntary Donation)
- Family Tickets are available
- If you are a Loyalty card holder, prices are cheaper, but would imagine this only makes sense if you are a local, or visit regulary
- Dogs are £2 return
Riding the Seaton Tramway
We decided to ride from Seaton to Colyton and back, enjoying all the views on the way.
The tram leaves Seaton Station, and after a couple of twists and turns, you are running along a track between the Seaton Wetlands, and River Axe.
There is the option to get off at Colyford Station.
We decided to stay on until the final stop, at Colyton.
It is a pretty little station, and worthy of a look around. Why not have a look around the Gift Shop, or perhaps grab a coffee or lunch in the station Cafe
Why not take the opportunity to wander into the village of Colyton. It is about a 15-minute walk, a pretty town to look around. There are a couple of pubs and cafes, but they only appear to be open during certain times.
When we visited, at just before 2pm, everything was closing after lunch, and we couldn’t get anything to eat.
Summary of the Seaton Tramway
All in all, riding the Seaton Tramway was good fun, and I definitely recommend taking a trip on it if you are visiting the town.
Grab your camera ready and be ready to photograph some great views of the Seaton Wetlands, and the River Axe.
