Seaton Wetlands is a collection of marshes located just one mile north of Seaton, near the South Devon Coast. It is great for family walks, bird watchers and is a true nature lovers paradise.
There are plenty of things to do in and around Seaton, and this was one of my favourites.
A bit about the Seaton Wetlands
The Wetlands are made up of three marshes. The Seaton Marshes, Black Hole Marsh and Colyford Common.

- Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- Check their website for any special events that may be running
- Parking is at the Seaton Cemetary, the best postcode is EX12 2SP
- Dogs are not allowed in the Seaton Wetlands
How to get there
The nearest main road is the A3052, and as you come through turn down Seaton Road, which merges into Colyford road.
Before long, you reach the entrance to the Seaton Cemetary, turn here, and drive slowly through to the main Wetlands car park.
In addition, Seaton Wetlands can also be reached from the town of Seaton, on foot or bike. The route is simple a one.

Time to Explore
Once you have parked up, take a short walk to enter the wetlands. Immediately you get to see the paths that branch off in a couple of directions. Most end up with views like this.
As you explore the paths and the tracks around Seaton Wetlands, you get the chance to spot wildlife and take some great views out over the Marshes.
There are walkways that lead out to hides, which is perfect if you’ve brought your binoculars and fancy a bit of bird watching.
In addition to the great views, don’t forget to explore all the little footpaths and bridges.
As you venture around the marshes that make up Seaton Wetlands, some of the bridges, paths, and tracks lead into the more covered areas.
Great for the children to explore!
Events and The Discovery Hut
Don’t forget to check out if they have any events during your visit.
For example, they had a Halloween Trail in October, and I would imagine they would hold things during other holidays too. Christmas and Easter for example. Again, check their website for more information.
There is a Discovery Hut, which at the time of our visit was closed due to COVID. When opened, they have a small shop, where you can buy drinks and snacks. They also hire out pond dipping equipment.

The Lookout & Island Hide
For true nature lovers and bird watchers, head out to the Lookout or the Island Hide.
Both give you that opportunity to be hidden from the wildlife while trying to get that view or photo of a rare bird. Or, perhaps you just want to sit in the peace and quiet and watch the world go by!

We all loved exploring the Seaton Wetlands, and I would definitely recommend it for an educational visit, and to explore somewhere in Devon.
