19 Great Campervan Accessories you must have for your next trip

Some time ago, I did a post about some of the best accessories to take on a campervan trip. A few years on, I thought I should refresh this, with our current list of Campervan Equipment.

Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. This means we will earn a small commission on the products or services you purchase using the links. There is no additional cost to you and if you do purchase, then I thank you for supporting the website.

These are the things we always pack, whether we are going for one night or 5 nights. There is also a more comprehensive list of the Cooking Equipment we take.

2022 UPDATE!! Ii have added a few more bits that we now use on the van. These are included below, and are indicated as so.

So, in no particular order, let’s get into it!

Hook Up Cable / Power Lead

This was on the old list and deserves to be here too.

We like having the Power Lead to ensure we can hook up to ensure we can use the plug, for a toaster, or hairdryer, etc.

You may also want to consider a storage bag for the lead, to keep it neat and tidy in the drawer or cupboard.

Awning Lights (Added Sept 2022)

Perfect little LED lights to light up your awning or tent.

They hang around the inside of the roof of our Drive Away Awning, and provide lots of light for those cosy nights away.

You can power them with a USB lead extension, but we tend to just plug them into a Power Bank.

Water Bottle & Funnel

I know many people have a water hose to connect directly from the tap to the onboard water tank. We, however, usually don’t need that much water as we don’t have a shower, or really do any washing up.

On arrival at a site, we head off, fill up our water bottle and just use the below funnel to pour into the Water Tank. We use an old 5L water bottle from when we bought water from the supermarket.

However, you could also use a collapsable water carrier, like the one below.

Pop Up Bowl

The Pop-Up Bucket is next on our list of Campervan Accessories if you do not wash up in your van.

It stores neatly in a cupboard or drawer and is only a couple of inches high. It then pops up into a decent-sized bucket, perfect for piling in those dirty dishes.

Extra Tip: Get one with a handle. You can buy ones without handles, but these will need two hands to carry. One with a handle, like this one, makes life just that little bit easier.

Collapsable Bucket (Added Sept 2022)

Yes, this is as well as the Pop Up Bowl above.

We use the Pop Up Bucket for a bin, and we think it deserves to be on our list of Campervan Accessories.

There are different options, but we chose the one that has the lid with a locking mechanism, just to make it a bit more secure.

Dish Drainer

As far as campervan accessories go, this may be a bit of an extra item.

If you want to make that trip to do the dishes that little bit easier, how about a Dish Drainer?

Not every campsite has these next to the sink, and we find them useful when they don’t. It just means you don’t have to pile your plates etc up and risk them falling.

Of course, it also means they drain better, and are easier to dry.

Awning Tie Down Straps (Added 2022)

These are great for securing your wind-out awning.

They fix firmly to the outside of the Awning Rail, and can be hammered into the ground to secure them

If you were ever worried about an errant gust of wind lifting the awning, and damaging it, then these could be your solution.

Microfibre Tea Towels (Added Sept 2022)

They dry up the pots quickly, and they dry themselves quickly.

Easy choice if you do not want wet tea towels hanging around for any length of time.

I don’t think these are the actual ones we bought, but they are very ssimilar.

Head Torch

Handy for heading off to the toilet for those late-night or early morning comfort breaks.

Also super handy if you ever have to set up after sundown, or if you are hunting around in the van or the tent for something where light isn’t that great.

Can also be used for jogging, dog walks, etc, so this has multiple uses.

The one we have is rechargeable via USB, so super easy to keep topped up with power.

Hanging Lantern

We use this when we have our Drive Away Awning up.

It has a neat handle that you use to carry it, but also can be used to hang from the center of the Awning.

It is chargeable by USB and has four different lights. Bright White, White, Yellow, and flashing white.

It gives off a great deal of light and is perfect for our Awning. It could easily be used to walk around with too!

Nylon Tie Straps (Added Sept 2022)

Simple nylon straps that can be used for a multitude of things, and are just good to have around.

We use them to bundle up our duvet, so they are easy to transport and squeeze into the wardrobe.

They are also used to keep our Drive Away Awning wrapped up when we pack it away.

Very versatile, cheap, and worthwhile to keep on the van, just in case!

Pop Up Tent

When we are talking about Campervan Accessories, this is super useful.

We use it for storing things in to give a bit more space in the van.

We use this for the car seat, dirty shoes after a walk, the camping stove to keep it handy.

You could also throw scooters, washing up stuff, deck chairs, fold-away tables etc in there too.

It is just an cheap, easy storage solution if space on your van is a premium.

Microfibre Towels

These should be further up the list. They are brilliant.

Easy to pack. Easy to take the shower. They dry you, and they dry themselves quickly and are perfect for campervan life.

We have even used a spare one to clear condensation when we get it.

Silicon Oven Mits (Added Sept 2022)

These should be further up the list. They are brilliant.

Easy to pack. Easy to take the shower.

They dry you, and they dry themselves quickly and are perfect for campervan life.

We have even used a spare one to clear condensation when we get it.

USB Extension Lead

Most campervans have a few USB ports. Sometimes though, they may not be in the perfect position.

We have an extended Apple charger permanently plugged into the van. If we need it, it can reach to Max in the back, to us in the front, and even to a deckchair outside under the awning.

This is the USB extension, so whatever device you have, you plug the lead in for that, into this lead to stretch to wherever you need it.

Compact Versatile BBQ

Every Campervan needs a BBQ. We have opted for a Gas one, as it is convenient, clean, and ready to go exactly when we want it to.

We love the Cadac Safari Chef as it has plenty of options, from just boiling a kettle, to a hot plate for burgers, steaks, and the like.

Campervan Accessories

And a couple of Campervan Accessories we don’t take on every trip, but have in the Garage for when we need them….

There are 2 things that we have nestled in the garage for the trips when we think we may need them.

One of them we only bought thanks to COVID, but now we have it, it is comforting to know it’s there is we need it.

Camping Toilet

Thanks to COVID, and our desire to go camping when onsite facilities were closed, we bought this.

Actually, we didn’t buy this exact model, but it was one very similar.

Easy to prepare. Easy to empty. (Well, as easy as tipping your number 1’s and number 2’s into a waste area can be), this style of loo was perfect for us.

Driveaway Awnings

We take this mainly when we are staying in one place for more than one night.

It means we can spread out. We have somewhere to change, we can store table, chairs and other camping stuff when we want to go out for the day.

There are many options, many styles, and many different fittings. We love the Vango Air Hub Hexaway, and there are a couple of videos on our channel about this.

Unpacking and First Set Up

Using onsite and connecting to the van

I would definitely recommend shopping around for this though, as personal preference and usage requirements would be important. This post may help if you need somewhere to start.
