Here are 6 Fun Things to see and do near Seaton, Devon

Seaton is a great little seaside town on the South Devon Coast. We have visited a couple of times recently, and have been able to put together this summary of 6 Fun Things to see and do near Seaton, Devon.

We visited with our 7-year-old, so many of these things were with him in mind, but us adults also enjoyed them too, so they should be great fun for all the family.

Many of these things are free, with the odd one chargeable. But, they are all worth checking out if you are looking for things to do near Seaton, Devon.

Free admission makes this attraction even more attractive! If you are looking for free things to do near Seaton, then this is definitely worth a look.

The Donkeys seem very content, and some are segregated to their needs, and clearly well looked after.

There is a small play park for the children, along with a cafe, gift shop, and a large, free car park.

They have events throughout the year, so it is worth checking their website for more information. Or, here is a more detailed write up I have done on the Donkey Sanctuary after our 2021 visit.

If you are looking for things to do in Seaton, then the Seaton Tramway is a stretch of line that runs from Seaton, up to Colyton and back again.

It passes through various stations or ‘halts’ as they call them. At the time of typing, you could only get on and off at Seaton, Colyford, or Colyton.

I recommend sitting up top, as you get great views over the Wetlands on one side, and the River Axe on the other.

Prepare to get cosy, as the trams were built many years ago when all things transport seemed a lot smaller. Once you have squeezed up the stairs, you will find the seats are not much bigger. The small wooden slatted seats while not comfy, are sufficient for the 20 minutes or so each way journey.

Here is a bit more information on the Seaton Tramway from our visit in 2021.

Branscombe Bay

If you are looking for a free thing to do near Seaton, Devon, then Branscombe Bay definitely worth a visit.

It is a pretty little bay located just outside of Seaton, roughly 4 miles. The drive there is a little edgy, as the roads down to the bay are single track, with occasional passing spaces.

The bay itself is stunning, and when we visited, there were lots of families having BBQs on the beach. It was a warm summers evening and an almost perfect setting for a beach BBQ.

There are toilets and refreshments available, but we did not experience either as we were on a bit of a tight timescale.

There is a large car park, but there appears to have been some issues.

WARNING: Many people appear to have been given parking fines despite paying for a ticket on the day. The issues seem to be around either not being able to add their reg number, or not realising the payment period is registered by a camera on entry and exit. The ticket has to cover this time, not just when you put your money in the machine, and when you return to your car. Be warned. Read the signs, and pay for the right amount. More info on this is on the TripAdvisor site.

At the time of typing, we have had no issues, and would definitely return. We would of course be extra careful when parking.

If you enjoy walks, wildlife and water, then look no further than the Seaton Wetlands, for yet another free things to do.

Located just 1 mile from the town centre, and with free parking, this is a great place to spend a couple of hours.

Parking is free just behind Seaton Cemetary, and within minutes you are strolling through the many Marshes.

Walk around the boardwalks and paths enjoying the scenery. If you’re a bird watcher, grab those binoculars and head for one of the many hides. There are plenty of opportunities to try and spot birds and wildlife enjoying their natural habitat.

Here is a more thorough write up I have done about Seaton Wetlands.

Please note, this is a dog-free nature reserve, so your furry friend can’t come along to this one, unfortunately.

Here is a video I did all and the Wetlands are another great free thing to do in Seaton.

Seaton Beach

You can’t talk about things to do near Seaton without actually discussing Seaton Beach. One of many pretty Devon beaches.

This is a typical English beach, predominantly pebble, and running for around 1 mile along the stunning south coast.

Along the beach, is a wide walkway, with a few cafes and bars. Perfect for sitting outside and watching the world go by in the (hopefully) warm seaside weather.

There was a closed-up pub along the seafront, which I think was the product of the COVID pandemic, but hopefully, businesses and towns like Seaton in Devon can bounce back.

It is possible to walk to the village of Beer and enjoy the stunning little fishing-type cove. See below.

Beer Village and Beach

Admission: Free (Parking Charges)

Distance from Seaton town centre: 2 mile

Pubs, an ‘on the beach’ cafe, and shops to browse make this pretty little town a worthy entry on our list of things to do near Seaton.

Parking is a challenge, certainly when we visited in the height of summer. It is possible to take the south coast walk from Seaton to Beer.

I think it is roughly a 2-mile walk, but can be steep in places. It will give you great views of the Devon coastline. I have to stress, I have not done this walk, so I advise you to research further if you are going this way.

The high street slopes down to the cove, or alternatively stay left to get a great view, as the above picture shows.
