Oakdown Touring Park – Is it deserving of all the awards?

Here is our review of Oakdown Touring Park for those that are looking for good campsites in Devon. Was that what they call a Spoiler Alert?

As with all our reviews here, and what we want to achieve on this site, we only review the campsites we have stayed at, so you know you are getting an honest opinion from honest campers. This is a review based on our experiences, totally independent and not sponsored or influenced by the campsite in any way.

If you haven’t been camping since the Coronavirus restrictions were lifted, then this post may help you when understanding what to expect.

Snapshot Review of Oakdown Touring Park

Great facilities, well kept and plenty to keep the children entertained.

The only thing I have against this campsite is that a number of pitches are along the A3052.

While not a problem at night as traffic reduces, during the day the tranquility is spoilt somewhat.

There is the main park, Oakdown Touring, and over the road, another part of the park called Oakmead.

Location of Oakdown Touring Park

Location less than 6 miles away, it is a great base to be able to explore Seaton and all it has to offer.

It is also close to Sidmouth, which has another beach although one we have not visited yet. Nearby there are the Seaton Wetlands, and the Tramway. Both are well worth a visit.

It is also just 1 mile from the Donkey Sanctuary, another great place to spend a couple of hours.

Customer Service and Staff

Oakdown Touring Park, good campsites in Devon

As with most sites these days, we do not really spend much time in the company of the staff.

Those at Oakdown Touring park that we chatted to were polite and courteous.

The lady in reception even stood to one side so I could take a few photos.

Showers and Toilets

No complaints here. They were big, warm, and with hot water that came through quickly.

The only gripe, and it isn’t a real gripe, is that there is only one block on the main side we stayed on.

A few of the pitches at Oakdown Touring Park may be a bit too far away for our liking, but that is a minor complaint and shouldn’t tarnish our review.

General Cleanliness

As you’d expect in today’s day and age, the cleanliness was spot on. There are lots of good campsites in Devon, so this is a must!

We didn’t spot anything that needed attention. The washing-up areas were kept spotless, as were the toilets.

They even requested no teeth brushing in the sinks to try and keep that certain virus at bay.

Facilities and Things to Do

Plenty to go through here, most of which are what you’d expect.

Play Park

There are in fact two play parks at Oakdown Touring Park, one on each side of the Park. Large, well equipped, and suitable for most age groups.

Shop and Cafe

Across the other side, in the Oakmead Park, there was a shop, selling the usual things you would expect. Bread, snacks, tinned good, etc.

In the same building, there was also a cafe selling various items, but when we were there, only pizzas were on offer.

Oakdown Touring Park

Waste & Chemical Toilet

Nice big bins for the rubbish, and also an outdoor chemical toilet area. It has a flush and a hose, so we can’t really ask for more than that!!

There are also smaller recycling bins nearer the pitches. This is a great idea, as it does make recycling easier to bin them there, rather than have to separate them in the campervan.

Conclusiion for our Review of Oakdown Touring Park

If you are looking for good campsites in Devon, then Oakdown Touring park It is definitely a site we would return to, but we would try and get a pitch away from that main road.

All in all, a great place to be based to explore East Devon and beyond!
